Creating engaging in-store experiences - Part 2: Pharmacies & Chemists

Last week we started to talk about how retailers can create a more engaging experience for customers in store. This week we’re expanding on the concept and looking at some customer experience ideas for Pharmacies and Chemists.

Aside from instant price and promotion updates, electronic shelf labels can be used to make the shopping experience easier for customers.

  1. Via QR codes customers can quickly access product information helping them determine whether it’s the correct product for their condition. This can be particularly useful if the condition is of a personal nature, or during busy times when staff aren’t able to advise customers at the shelf edge.

  2. Foreign language assistance can be provided by simply giving the customer access to the product information online (again via QR codes), where they can translate the content via their chrome app or equivalent. This is especially relevant for airport stores.

  3. Beauty brands often run a lot of offers and discounts, with electronic labels these can be easily displays on the label screens of each and every product ticket in seconds. Using a red background colour or red text, highlights the exact discount of each product to the customer, which tends to convert sales at a higher rate than a single promotional shelf talker, displaying a generic percentage off.

It’s hard to talk about retail at the moment without acknowledging the current situation we’re experiencing with the coronavirus. Each country is taking various levels of measures designed to limit social contact, however in almost all countries pharmacies are one of the only retail sectors remaining open. It’s especially important to keep workers at pharmacies safe during this time, something that electronic shelf labels can also help with. By being able to update prices and promotions remotely, tasks that were previously very reliant on staff on the shop floor, can now be completed from the safety of your own home.

Allowing customers to access the product information they need via QR codes as described in point 1 above, also limits the amount of one on one contact required in-store, keeping staff behind the pharmacy counter, which positions them at a safer distance to customers.
